Testimonials

"Thank you for providing the opportunity to have an exciting research experience and broaden my understanding of cancer."

- Ivan Ocegueda | 2016 UCRTP Student

"I cannot express in words how grateful I am for being part of the CDU/UCLA team. This summer I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life. More than an academic challenge, it was also a personal challenge. Being away from home, family, learning more about medicine, fighting against health disparities, meeting new people, all of this changed me a lot. I can say now that I am a different Beatriz from the one three months ago. But, I can assure you, I am definitely a better one. Thank you for making this possible."

- Beatriz Sorato | 2018 UCRTP Student

"I recently presented the research I conducted with Dr. Chung at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). Amongst 2,100 students who presented, 17 others and I won best presentation award in cancer biology."

"I received my first med school interview at The University of Florida, College of medicine. And I’m positive that the UCRTP 2018 experience, helped me illustrate my passion for biomedical science / medicine, and I truly want to thank the UCRTP Staff/Program coordinators for the tremendous support provided throughout this process!"

- Armando A Soto | 2018 UCRTP Student

"I participated in the Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program (UCRTP) in 2021. UCRTP was one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had, as it exposed me to both in-person lab work, as well as statistical analysis using R studio. It was my first time being in a clinical laboratory, and I enjoyed the experience immensely. It was also my first time using any coding program; I am grateful to UCRTP that it provided me with all the resources necessary to learn a new coding language (R Studio) from scratch. Conducting a statistical analysis of RNA sequencing data was extremely interesting, and showed me relevant applications of data that comes from lab work. The research I conducted through UCRTP made me consider pursuing an MD-PhD, as opposed to just an MD."
